Choosing Your Class
The first and most crucial decision you’ll make is selecting your starting class. For this walkthrough, I recommend starting with the Vagabond class. This class utilizes quality scaling weapons, meaning you’ll have the flexibility to use weapons that scale with both Strength and Dexterity. This versatility is invaluable, especially on a first playthrough, as it allows you to experiment with various weapons and find what suits your playstyle best.
· Vagabond: Best for players who want to try out a variety of weapons and maintain flexibility in combat styles.
· Warrior: Focused on Dexterity, ideal for those who prefer fast, agile combat.
· Hero: A Strength-based class, perfect for heavy hitters.
· Bandit: Suited for players who enjoy critical hits and a bow-oriented playstyle.
· Astrologer: The go-to class for those wanting to master sorcery.
· Prophet: Faith-based class, focusing on miracles and incantations.
· Samurai: Dexterity with bleed effects; starts with the Uchigatana.
· Prisoner: A mix of Dexterity and Intelligence, with a focus on PvP.
· Confessor: A more aggressive Faith class, combining melee combat with miracles.
· Wretch: The ultimate challenge—starts at level 1 with balanced stats and only a club.
Keepsake Selection
When it comes to selecting your keepsake, my recommendation is to go with the Stone Sword Keys. These consumables are invaluable as they open fog gates throughout the world, revealing hidden treasures. While other keepsakes may seem tempting, such as the Golden Seed, they quickly become irrelevant as you progress through the game. Stone Sword Keys, on the other hand, are always useful and allow you to access unique areas and items.
Getting Started
Once you’ve chosen your class and keepsake, it’s time to jump into the game. For the sake of efficiency, I’ll be skipping cutscenes in this guide, focusing instead on providing you with the most essential information to progress through the game.
· Pick Up the Finger: This item allows you to leave messages for other players. While it’s not essential for the walkthrough, it’s a nice touch for those who enjoy interacting with the Elden Ring community.
· Chapel of Anticipation: This is where you start. There’s a boss here that you’re meant to lose to, but if you’re feeling confident, give it a shot. If you defeat him, you’ll get his sword and shield, but don’t worry if you don’t—you’ll have a chance to obtain these items later.
· Flask of Crimson and Cerulean Tears: After your inevitable defeat, you’ll wake up with these flasks, which are used to restore health and FP (focus points). These are your lifeline in the game, so manage them wisely.
The First Steps
Your first real challenge begins in the tutorial cave. While you can skip it if you're familiar with the basics, I recommend running through it to pick up a few essentials and get a feel for the controls.
· Basic Combat: Learn the basics of combat—quick attacks, heavy attacks, blocking, and dodging. Mastering these will be crucial as you progress through the game.
· Staggering Enemies: Elden Ring introduces a mechanic where you can posture break enemies, similar to the death blow in Sekiro. This allows you to deal massive damage once an enemy’s posture is broken.
· Grace Sites: These serve as your bonfires, where you can rest, level up, and manage your flasks.
Exploring Limgrave
Upon exiting the tutorial cave, you’ll find yourself in Limgrave, the first open-world area of Elden Ring. The world is vast, and there’s a lot to see and do, but for now, focus on heading to the nearby Church of Elleh. Here, you’ll find a merchant and some starter items.
· Crafting Kit: Purchase this from the merchant—it’s essential for crafting items on the go.
· Smithing Stones: These are scattered throughout the world and are used to upgrade your weapons.
The Journey Ahead
From here, the world of Elden Ring opens up, offering players countless opportunities for exploration and adventure. This guide will walk you through each step, ensuring you don’t miss any key items, quests, or bosses. Remember, this walkthrough is designed to help you achieve Platinum rank, so we’ll cover all the essentials to help you achieve that goal.
